No support
On 1/01/09 I called customer service (that is what they call it). I told the tech my internal lightscribe drive would not burn label's. I am not a not a novice and I went through all the steps - uninstalling the drive and reinstalling the drive, etc. I told the the tech that my external lightscribe drive was working fine so it had to be the drive. He had me duplicate all the steps I Had already done and after 1:05 he said he would send me a new drive it was under warranty got my credit card info and he put me on hold. After 10 minutes (1:15 total time) I hung up.

I called back after I cooled down and got a tech who saw what was done, bur insisted to let him take over my PC. He assured me it take only 20 minutes and I agreed. An hour and 35 minutes later I told him just take of ordering the drive (it seems the first tech did not it. Hr agreed and then after being on hold for 5 minutes he told me the system was down and I would have to call back on 11/2/09.

Both techs had bad attitudes and treated me like a dummy. I wasted two hours and 40 minutes of being insulted and talked down to!

Price can not overcome lack of service

Great powerful HP desktop
I just replaced my 8 year old Pentium 4 desktop with the HP Elite m9550f. I'm blown away, it's super fast, the fan is so noiseless, you hardly know it's running! I purchased it along with an HP 21.5" 1080p HD monitor with HDMI input. The monitor is the best I've ever seen. Only a Sony might beat it for over all quality and performance. My new HP computer is also expandable and not proprietary like with a Dell and others out there. I added an extra drive myself, so I got to take a look inside. I was very impressed with the quality of the components HP uses in their computers! Which is very important, since their's a lot of cheap junk out their. They used a Pegatron Corp. motherboard (formerly ASUS, which split it's company into 3 seperate divisions last year)! If anyone knows anything about motherboards it's the next most important part of your computer next to the processor chip itself! Pegatron Corp. boards are an industry leader, making boards that even out perform Intel and AMD which make the processor chips for the board. Only high-end PC makers use Pegatron Corp. motherboards. HP also used a 1 TB Seagate Berracuda hard-drive, again the indusrty leader for qualty and reliability! The hard-drive is virtually silent! It has way more capacity than anyone would ever need, I would well imagine! The HP DVD/CD burners are made by Philips/Lite-On, again one of the leaders, only Plextor is better in performance! The memory chips are made by Samsung. The soundcard is by Realtek, only Creative sound blaster and Turtle Beach are better! They also used a fairly high-end ATI Radeon graphics card, which is impressive. Everyone has their preference on graphics cards, but there's basically very little difference between Nvidia and ATI graphics chips! The power supply is by Delta Electronics and has plenty of available power. The build quilty of the mid-tower case is great! It's very well constructed and sturdy! It has all metal sides and rear, the front plastic bezel is strong and well made, plus very stylish and high-tech looking! All-in-all this is a great computer, although it's fairly expensive, but then you sometimes get what you pay for! I thought they should have included a Blu-ray drive for the price, but I can always add one later, it's already to go, with a compatiable graphics card! If you buy this PC, I'm sure you'll be satisfied!

I made a mistake
The computer came, but you shipped an m9510f instead of the M9510F. I wish I had kept it and found some way to install a modem in it. Not too happy with the Gateway I got instead just because it had a modem.

Dual Monitor Display Issues
The machine works well, and enough people have reviewed it that I will focus on a particular video display problem that you are likely to encounter with this, and perhaps other HP Media PCs. If you try to play DVDs and Blurays onto a second, shared LCD monitor (typically this would be your lcd tv) connected via the HDMI port, you will have a good chance of your display being totally corrupted on that display. It will play fine on your primary DVI connected monitor, but when you try and view it instead on the second, HDMI connected one it will likely be just a field of static. This may not happen the first time you try this, but as soon as you run say Windows Media Player, your codecs will update automatically and you will be unable to view it.

HP technical support was completely useless in debugging this problem, don't bother with them. The problem that causes this, as far as I can ascertain, is the inability of Vista, the bluray player, the drivers and codecs all properly communicating with each other the various security/copywrite permissions that need to happen in order to play video on a dual monitor set up.

The only solution I have found that works, and believe me, I tried many, is to install Slysoft's Anydvd (HD version). This program strips out the different protection schemes from the videos and allows them to play correctly on dual monitor home theater setups with a computer monitor and an HDMI connected tv. I hope HP and the rest of the industry figure this out and standardize HTPC protocols so the consumer doesn't have to deal with these ridiculous issues.
