worked like a charm right out the box
i have only had a few computers.but this one worked right away no problems setting up.just plugged in and answered the the questions for set up and was done.easy peasy!i still can't believe it.the nortons antivirus which is what i was afraid of is working fine.in the past i would delete it and buy macafee.but this time i will be renewing it when the trial runs out in two weeks. it was good for about 2 months.can't say anything negative about the computer.i do have a problem with downloading on the internet only some sites,so it maybe the sites not the computer. i have been on the sites many times before with no problem till one day which started around the same time i installed iomega hard drive to back up my files(so that could be it too) but solved that quick too.when i am going on the internet to download i just right click the internet explorer icon and click ''run as administrator'' then click continue and the page comes up and i can download on those sites.i would reccomend this and may buy another in the future.

Ok, so this computer is great for a home PC setup. Nice duo core processor. 6 gigs of ram is nice.
Now here comes the part i found out after i purchased it. I do sound engineering. I record bands. I bought this computer with the intention of upgrading to a quad-core processor at some point. all the specs matched so i thought i was good to go. I later found out that it has an EMBEDDED PROCESSOR!!!! This means the processor is soldered to the motherboard and can't be removed without a great deal of effort. To put a new one in after you remove the old one is next to impossible.
So if you buy this computer, don't plan on upgrading your processor. The only way to do that is to replace the entire motherboard along with it, and even at that point you have to purchase a motherboard that will fit into your HP tower. Not an easy task to accomplish.
All in all, this is a great little machine. I made the mistake of purchasing something that is not upgradeable as far as the processor is concerned and that's my bad.

Good except for VISTA....HATE IT
I just bought this yesterday. I like the speed, hate the pre installed crap and HATE HATE HATE VISTA. would love to install WIN7 now but will that void the Warranty? Got mine at office depot also didnt see anything about a free printer rebate? Where do I find that?
Pros: Faster
Cons: vista
preinstalled software crap
small keyboard
64 bit so have to find new drivers for my printer, wireless and camera doc etc.

Good quality machine!
I just recently bought this machine at my local Office Depot store, and it's a wonderful, cheap powerhouse. I had a couple reasons for choosing this machine, and there are them:
(1). Its processor is Intel branded. Because of bad experiences with AMD, I only buy Intel.
(2). It has expansion slots, AKA it is a big tower, not those tiny, unexpandible towers. This is good for when I want to upgrade the weakest point of this machine: The graphics card.
(3). Lightscribe disc labeling technology.
(4). Built-in card reader
(5). Price! At 500, it's a steal, [...]
(6). RAM! 6GB is godly... I couldn't ask for more.
(7). Hard drive space... 640GB is wonderful as well for a machine of this price tag.
There are a couple let-downs, here are them:
(1). Graphics card. It is a built in decroded POS, and has problems playing Halo 1. I plan on upgrading this though, which is why I bought the larger version of this machine.
(2). Preinstalled programs... HP has this as its major let down. However, you can SLOWLY remove everything, and I just installed the Windows 7 RC which erased everything, as well as make the machine faster!
Overall, this is a great machine for the price. No slow downs at all, pretty quiet (I have a netbook with an SSD so I'm pampered with quiet computers), and it just works. I recommend it to anyone!
More info; 9/27/09:
Machine is still running incredibly well! I have added the EVGA *LOW POWER* 9600GT graphics card (which barely fits ;) ). It can now play just about everything... And, the low power makes the PSU not as stressed (it's pretty weak as a PSU) but it's all still working great. I've also added an eSATA external HDD part, and everything's perfect. I'll update later with any problems!
